John Muir Land Trust and Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society invite you to spend an evening exploring the night sky!

The heavens are aligned for another stellar Stargazing event on Thursday, August 17th from 5:30pm-9:30pm at John Muir Land Trust’s Fernandez Ranch, a permanently protected 1,185-acre natural area.

This popular event, hosted by JMLT in partnership with the Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society offers something for everyone! Being far from city lights means the evening promises great views of night sky. Child-friendly materials and a demonstration of how to use the binoculars and equipment will be included.

– Docent-led walking tour - “Pacing the Planets - using POINT mobile app technology. Description and

6:30 pm – Ice Cream Social
7:00 pm – Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society presentation
7:30 – 9:30 pm – Stargazing using Astronomical Society’s phenomenal telescopes!

This event is open to the public, free of charge and ADA accessible. To ensure comfortable viewing, guests should bring a blanket and/or chair and flashlight. Evenings at Fernandez Ranch can be chilly, so consider dressing in layers. Budding and experienced photographers alike are encouraged to bring a camera to capture the evening beauty of Fernandez Ranch. Your photograph may be selected for JMLT’s website!

GETTING TO FERNANDEZ RANCH

From I-80: Head east on Highway 4. Take the first exit after the Franklin Canyon Golf Course onto Christie Road. Use caution; Christie Road is a minor exit off of Highway 4. Fernandez Ranch is .7 miles down Christie Road on your right.

From Martinez: Head west on Highway 4. Take the Franklin Canyon Exit. Turn left and merge onto Highway 4 eastbound. Take the first exit after the Franklin Canyon Golf Course onto Christie Road. Use caution; Christie Road is a minor exit off of Highway 4. Fernandez Ranch is .7 miles down Christie Road on your right.
